2020 begins
with forest fires,
tense foreign relationships,
and impeachment trials.
When the new born January
fades into February,
tensions amid the east coast
rise more than ever.
The cold bite of winter
dissolves
into the wet showers of
Spring,
as March beholds a
blossom for the entire
world.
A blossom
of death,
depression,
and confinement.
The pollen-
a deadly virus
fertilizing even the top
countries of the world.
Days dwindle to weeks.
Then
months
and
months
of shut doors,
masks,
and news of
sickness and disease.
As futures are left
in a thick
fog,
Covid-19 leads many
down stray paths.
Lost, unfamiliar
grounds
soon turn into
a daily routine.
The once abundant
constant worry and
fear, slowly start to
subside,
placing itself in just
a corner, amidst a room
full of emotions.
May and June erase
traces of a pandemic on
the news,
for a few weeks,
bringing in
latest events of injustice
and racism.
Protesters march down the
many streets of America
Fighting back, voicing out for the
equality needed.
Time runs and runs,
the same as any year,
however, the uncertainty
this one,
year 2020,
brings,
makes it feel
slow,
bleak,
and tiring.
Hope is the
only spark
left dwindling,
pushing people across
the dark world
toward the speck
of light
everyone wants to reach
to be rid of this
darkness.
