My name tells the world I’m precious,
A diamond in otherwise empty mines,
A bleeding ruby in the midst of boring silvers.
I should be revered.
Yet what my name yells to others
Is now a dying whisper
Because something else
Has stolen its job.
Something else is what people see and use to
Define me.
That something isn’t the name that labels me as
Priceless,
Nor is it the soul that bares the colors of my tears
And bottles the sound of my laughs.
No.
It’s my body,
A wondrous snowflake that twirls beautifully in the air
When it is away from the cruelty of mankind,
But gets crushed and melted the second humans
Grab it.
My body.
It was cooed over even when it was a soft,
Raw mess,
Blood coating its skin,
However now,
It is mocked.
It is judged.
They say “Beauty is Within,”
But how can that be true when the
Foulest hearts have the most alluring skin,
And the most invaluable hearts are trapped by branded flesh,
Forced to stay closed inside in fear?
The Beast got his Beauty,
But how can I even look in the mirror and see beauty
When all I can see are the beastly words others have
Seared into my very existence?
Instead of standing up tall when I hear my name,
I now cower and beg to disappear,
To escape the
Judging stares thrown at me
And the disgusted eyes that take in my body.
A diamond can almost never be broken,
But it seems like I'm different in that too,
For this diamond
Is very close to combusting into
Meaningless dust.
* Body Shaming should not be encouraged. It doesn't make you cool; it just shows your true ugliness. Thin, thick, dark skin, fair, hairy, hairless..... none of those should matter, but our world is far from perfect and many of the humans here are unnecessarily cruel. There will definitely be at least one time someone judges your body. The words may hurt but know that you are beautiful, and if anyone thinks otherwise, then they are not worth your tears.
