Thank You

Chaos. ! A complete year of full chaos, misery, and anxiety. Yet amidst this darkness, the holidays give us all specks of light, moments of joy and bliss spent with those dearest to our hearts. Gratitude. A word, a thought of thanks every day to show gratitude for the small and big things in life; however, most of us, me included, fail to do so daily. So I’d like to take this time of year, this opportunity Thanksgiving gives me to express my thanks.

Thank you. Thank you amma for all your help in my school work, all the pep talks and girl talks, and all your hard work toward my happiness. I know I don’t say it often enough, but thank you.

Appa, I thank you too for all the jokes and moments of happiness you bring into our lives even after working hard. Ananya and Dhanya, the two tiny stars filled with the most light, thank you so much for always being able to pull me out of my worries, pull me out of my sorrows with adorable and compassionate actions, bringing a smile to my face whenever I need it. Family, I thank you: grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, for you, are the pillars that hold this house called family up, the support while many times disregarded, always there to back us up. Though our time together has been short, I cherish our calls and the exchange of family photos. Now I say thank you to my wonderful friends who are always there for me, as loud, carefree buddies and silent, honest listeners. The ways all of you care for me and help me up are different; however, I am grateful for all of it- the tearful heart-wrenching moments that either slap some sense into me or bring me the greatest joy and happiness. I am grateful for the health of myself and my family, especially during this pandemic, the food and water I have ready at hand, and even the clothes draped across my closet in a messed heap. Even though many of these things are overlooked, I am also beyond grateful for the hundreds of books that kept me engaged and lively during quarantine, the music that keeps me focused and entertained, and even the comfy bed I pass out on each night. Thank you, family. Thank you, friends. Thank you material objects I barely give a second thought to. Most of all, thank you God for blessing me with life, one bubbling over with success, content, and privilege upon privilege. And thank you Thanksgiving, for allowing me to think things through and reflect upon the things I am grateful for. Happy Thanksgiving y’all. Enjoy the holiday- stay safe and stay smiling!
